CECILIE strips it all back on the live studio session of "Paperthin Devotion"
CECILIE, the Danish indie folk/pop singer-songwriter, is releasing a live studio session of her track "Paperthin Devotion" – recorded and filmed in a single live take at the renowned Bairro Up Estúdio in Lisbon, Portugal, together with Portuguese producer João Sampayo.
"Paperthin Devotion" is a song for the hopeless romantic. It circles around today's tendencies in the search for love, where committed, romantic relationships can feel fleeting and hard to find – it's for anyone who longs for togetherness, but still can't quite let go of past rejections and old flames.
What really gets me about this version, though, is the production. It's kept wonderfully simple, and that's exactly what lets CECILIE's strong voice and the lyrics stand front and center.
Being a live session, it also has this raw, authentic sound that I've always been such a fan of – you can actually hear the fingers moving up and down the strings, the strum of the guitar itself, not just the note that comes out of it. Too much of that kind of texture can get noisy, but here it's dosed exactly right, and it gives the whole song a really nice flavor.
It's a beautifully stripped-back version of the song – and I think you should give it a listen.
